Ilva Tare: Ambassador, when you say that political will should be giving messages, clear signals. What do you exactly mean, what has politics got to do with the prosecution of such crimes?
Ambassador Luigi Soreca: Well, of course, the prosecution has the lead, but it is clear that for example, the selection of the candidate that will run for the election on the 25th of June, selecting candidates that they don’t have any, let’s say, elements concerning their criminal past or any element of suspecting concerning corruption cases will give a strong signal to the public opinion, to the Albanian society, and to the European public opinion that the political class is giving a signal that is working hand-in-hand with the Prosecution Office.
Ilva Tare: Do you have this expectation when it comes to the political party candidates’ as well the list they will select for the for the next parliamentary elections?
Ambassador Luigi Soreca: Well, I expect them to be serious, to identify qualified candidates, people that can help to change this country which is in need of moving to another gear in the run up to the integration. So, very serious, very thorough assessment of the quality, of the integrity of the candidate, so that the Albanian can vote free and fair on the 25th of April.
Ilva Tare: Have you got any concerns so far regarding the candidates, the political parties are contacting or being?
Ambassador Luigi Soreca: I am not following at the moment, I have to tell you, I see that there is a process of selection. We will give our assessment when this process will end. But the call on the political parties is to do this exactly in this direction.
